BOSTON - Wausau native and former Wausau East standout Sarah (Bashinski) Flament ran a personal best 2 hours, 43 minutes and 37 seconds at today's Boston Marathon, placing her 25th among all female participants and the 10th American.
She took 297th overall in the 26.2-mile event.
Flament, who turns 36 later this month, ran the second half of the race faster than the first, going through the 1/2-marathon in 1:22.34, meaning her second 13.1 miles was in 1:21.03, more than a minute faster. Her pace for the run was 6:15 per mile.
Flament, who qualified for the 2012 Olympic Trials at the 2009 Twin Cities Marathon with a 2:45:48 effort, battled injuries through much of 2010 and was hoping to use today's race as a "confidence booster.''
Boston is expected to be her final marathon before the Olympic Trials race Jan. 14, 2012 in Houston.
